Meet Hugo

I have been a resident of the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville for over twenty-five years living in Daniel Schaffer house in the Hamlet of Bethesda, with my wife Linda, where we have raised our three daughters. Our eldest, Erica-Lynn, now lives in Moorefield Ontario with her husband John and our two grandsons. Our second daughter Kyla is the office administrator for Danosh Construction in Mount Albert and continues to live at home with us, while the youngest, Krista resides in Aurora and works as an Early Childhood Educator. Linda has for over 15 years been the office administrator for Stouffville Christian School, now located upstairs at the Springvale Baptist Church which is at Kennedy and Stouffville Roads.

I have worked in the Landscape maintenance industry in some capacity my entire career. From owning a successful business, managing hundreds of individual private, commercial, government and institutional clients, to working in sales, management and supervisory roles for some of Ontario’s largest and most successful property management firms. In those roles, I was directly involved in providing millions of dollars of tenders and services to many prominent corporate clients as well as various levels of government, and have had the opportunity of coming to understand the challenges of successful business and government from both sides. My involvement in local politics began some years ago by helping head a concerned citizens group which eventually led to the creation of this town’s Site Alteration and Fill bylaw, which has become a governance model for municipalities province wide.

As a resident, I volunteered to sit on the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum and Community Centre Advisory Board for 8 years, the Lemonville Community Centre Advisory Board for 4 years, and now as councillor continue to be part of those, and as well as the 19 on the Park Theatre Board. I am a long time member of Stouffville Legion 459 to honour the sacrifice of veterans, including my father. I also manage a private land trust of thousands of acres in the near north of this province where I have had to deal with all levels of government on environmental impacts, zoning matters, and other land rights issues. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying both hunting and fishing. I am an enthusiastic student of military and political history. As well, when I can, I try to find time to restore and recreate antique furniture, work on old cars and trucks, compete in automobile racing and be involved in recreational shooting sports.
